I will start way back when...
My Journey
We all start somewhere right?. When I under under 10 years old I was never a big girl, I was healthy. I hit age 10 and from this age, I struggled with some rough years.. This was difficult for me mentally, emotionally but also physically. I played sports all throughout my teen and preteen years and I was never the fastest kid on the team, or the quickest. My dad was the coach of my soccer teams growing up and I was often put in goal, well because I was a damn good goalie (DUH because I was NOT fast, and I took up a great space at that goal!)I never greasy take out, or deep fried anything, but I ate a lot of food. All the time. Part was my constant eating, part was genetics. My mom who is a very petite small woman now, but when she was around 13 she was a bit overweight and plump herself. This combine with the fact that I LOVED to eat didn't make for a great combination. Don't get me wrong, I love to eat now, BUT i really loved to eat back then. I didn't know anything about portion control and that was my biggest problem.
Here is a picture of me at 13 years old, with my brother who also was a prior 'plump one' for lack of better terms
And this is ROCK bottom. Scary I know. This is actually me. (on the far left)
and again at 14
I started learning more about portion control and eating smaller meals throughout the entire day. When High School hit, I also picked up my workouts a LOT. My mom introduced me to Golds Gym and I lived there! I was a two season athlete playing both Field hockey and I did crew (rowing) for 2 years. When I was not playing sports, You could find me at Golds after school!
I became a avid Spinner, spinning twice a week with my dad and I also loved weight training. Everything about fitness and working out intrigued me and I was always picking up the latest magazine or subscribing to all different nutrition magazines and publications. My parents helped me a TON. They, being crazy, fitness people themselves started working out with me, and it became such a strong memory of mine. To this day, I LOVE working out with my parents. They are my motivators and biggest inspirations.
My Love for fitness and nutrition brought into the field I work today. I studied exercise science in college, and have a minor in nutrition. Right now I am ACSM certified personal trainer and work as an exercise specialist for a corporate fitness center. I love what I do and I love giving the gift of health to others. I certainly practice what I preach and don't go a day without exercise (whether it be mental or physical exercise!)
Junior year of Highschool with one of my best friends at our Junior Prom, slimmed down a bit!
Ah the college years which acutally were VERY good to me. I have no issues with peer pressure or food control when It comes to food, some people think I am acutally crazy! But in the cafeteria, I would NEVER touch the unhealthy mystery foods, fried, battered, baked crap that lots of college kids have issues avoiding (then the dreaded freshman 15 occurs) for me, I found myself In college. I was so good about portion control and food choices, that I acutally LOST weight during my 4 years there. I also LOVED my college's gym, so I spent LOTS of time there, as you can imagine!
and this is me now, with my brother and father (taken summer 2008)
Me and My Mom taken end of summer 2008
scary pic of me taken a few weeks ago for my new Mac...so sorry about the close up!
That is my journey from going to prior fat girl, to normal sized, athletic, healthy gal now!
I wanted to share my Journey with you all in a nutshell!
Naomi, Now:
My Name is Naomi and I am One Fit Foodie! I graduated from Ithaca college in 2008 with a B.S in Exercise Science and a minor in nutrition. I knew in High School I wanted to make a career for myself in the health and fitness industry. I am so very passioante about everything related to fitness/health/wellness/nutrition. I was one of those students in Anatomy Lab that just loved studying the bones and muscles of the body. It is a Love and a Passion for me
was taking courses such as anatomy and physiology, kinesiolgy, exercise physiology, human nutrition, sports nutrition, bio mechanics. Others may cringe at these topics but I FELL IN LOVE with this stuff! I couldn't wait to graduate and put my studies to work! I was eager to work in a fitness center setting and help people learn the importance of exercise, not only to transform their bodies, but their minds, outlook on life and soul.
These days, I am still taking what I have learned in college and applying it each and everyday at work. I am an ACSM certified personal trainer, as well as Madd Dog Spinning certifed. My job title is an Exercise Specialist for a corporate citness center. I Teach people all day long the importance of exercise, proper form while strength training and complimenting their hard effots with healthy eating. I try to make an impact on others and make them realize that the greatest gift they can give themselves is the gift of health. AND ITS FREE!
My favorite style of workouts are based on body confusion and plyometrics, I try to make the most of my time in the gym by keeping my heart rate up with jumping jacks, jump rope, burpees throughout my strength training sessions. Tricking your body is the key seeing those hard earned results! (and diet of course!) I am an avid spinner and now Spinning certified So I will soon be teaching my own classes!
I love to cook. Everything and anything. I find such joy and comfort in making new creative dishes from scratch. I play with ingredients, spices, new products and hopefully always get a positive outcome! I love cooking for others and seeing the looks on their faces when they take their first delicious bite. It is a passion, engraved deep within me and I will continue to cook well into my elder years. I hope you enjoy what I stir up in the kitchen!
So, this is me! Follow me as I workout, eat healthy, cook up some delicious recipes and have fun!

Hi Nums.. Thanx for allowing me to relive the wedding and the pre wedding trips..-- you are a great reporter..
Hi there!! Thank you so much for leaving such a sweet comment on my blog!! :) I have to say the same thing to you - HOW have I never seen YOUR blog?!?! So glad to have found it!! It is so adorable!! I too was a chubby teen. I didn't lose my weight until the end of college though. Then had some disordered eating and became obsessed with getting as small as possible. Then that backfired and now I'm a little overweight again. Anyway, long story short, I want to lose about 20-25 pounds to get back to my happy healthy weight, but have now encountered some health issues - underactive thyroid - which is making it very difficult.
Your pictures are so pretty - what pretty blue eyes you have!! Looking forward to following your blog!!

I found you through Janetha's blog too! I live just outside of Boston as well and I'm also Mad Dogg Spinning certified! Right now I'm toying with the idea of getting ACSM certified in personal training and leaving my desk job. Did you do the ACSM personal trainer 3 day workshop? That's what I'm thinking of signing up for...

Hi! I just ran into your blog. I am new to the food blogging world. I used to do personal training in college and it was such an inspiring and motivating job. I loved helping others and making them feel better. I now work at an atheltic apparel company... a little different from the gym world. I am very excited to learn from your healthy ways. I am trying to cut all meats..so I am looking forward to your recipes. I am trying to cut back and get more in shape.
Cheers!

Hi girl...I just came across your blog. You have a great story! I love your passion for all things food and fitness. I too love classes like anatomy :). I'm looking forward to reading your posts!
Hi! Thanks for sharing your story. I can really relate to the beginning of your story when it came to being an adolescent and not necessarily eating unhealthy things, but having NO idea what portion size was. I think that understanding the appropriate amount to eat definitely a common problem among young people, especially during such transitional stages in life.
Love your blog header! :)
Thanks for commenting on my post about Janetha and Momma B. It's always fun to find new blogs and I'm surprised I haven't see yours before. You have a great story!
Sounds like we share similar workout philosophies. I love burpees too! Well I'm not sure if I *love* burpees but I love what burpees do for my body.
Hi Naomi,
So glad to have found your blog! The chickpea blondies you made today look delish!

Love your story, and love that you have actual credentials! It's very inspiring to see a personal trainer who knows what it is like to struggle with weight.
Hi Naomi!
I just came across your blog and I think it's fabulous! I come from a similar weight gain/loss background as you; as a kid, I did tons of physical activity but didn't know anything about portion sizes, and they definitely caught up with me! Eventually I discovered my love for running, spinning (I'm an instructor as well) and FOOD (healthier food this time!) I love your recipes and am SO trying some of them out this week! I've added you to my blog roll and I'm looking forward to following your posts!
Have a great day,
Angela :)
